If you’ve been wondering what a Phi Sigma Pi National Convention is like, and I know you all have been, than look no further! Alpha Omega sent four of our brothers to the National Convention held in Washington D.C. from August 5th-9th. Reem Hamoda was our delegate to Grand Chapter, a business meeting comprised of representatives of Phi Sigma Pi from all over the country. The brothers present voted on varying amendments to the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity National Constitution, which can be found on the national website.
Three of our brothers, Emily Skiba, Jordan Johnson, and I, were present for the portion of the convention where various seminars were held to help us grow and better our chapter. We attended workshops on Leadership and Legacy, Leaders Choosing Leaders, and The Art of Successful Coaching (a Leadership in Action module). Those sessions provided us with valuable information and techniques to bring back to our chapter. We also had the opportunity to attend roundtable discussions with brothers from across the country. During that time, we were able to hear about what other chapters are doing, as well as tell them the great things we do here in our chapter! For me, this was the best part of convention (other than the Phi Sigma Pi ice sculpture of course) because we were able to get ideas to try out at Pitt from other chapters.
Another major highlight from the convention: the opportunity to meet our new chapter consultant, Robbie Cusella. Those of us that met him loved him instantly. He’s excited to begin working with us this upcoming semester and we’re equally as thrilled!
If you want to hear more about convention, or have any questions about it, feel free to ask any of the brothers that attended!
